Yurdal Tokcan

Yurdal Tokcan has revolutionized oud playing. Due to his modern and innovative playing technique he is considered a master and role model for the young generation worldwide - in Turkey and everywhere in the Arab world. As a composer he also breaks new ground: In his numerous compositions you can find traditional as well as polyphonic melodies for Turkish classical instruments.

He received his master's degree at Istanbul Technical University's Turkish State Conservatory. In addition to his teaching activities, also at the Oriental Music Academy Mannheim, he gives concerts internationally, solo at festivals in Oman, Jordan, Cairo, Istanbul and Japan and as a guest musician, for example with Burhan Öçal, Mercan Dede, Kudsi Ergüner and Jordi Savall. Yurdal Tokcan also plays in orchestras like "Istanbul State Classical Turkish Music Ensemble" and "Istanbul Fasil Ensemble".

The live recording of a concert together with Burhan Ocal (percussion), Goksel Baktagir (Kanun), Selim Guler (Kemençe) and Arif Erdebil (Ney) was named "Best Ethnic Album" in France.
