Murat Coşkun

Percussion, Ensemble

Based on his studies of oriental studies and ethnomusicology, the internationally renowned percussionist has made his claim of "Connecting Cultures" his own and mediates between different musical worlds and styles. As an outstanding exponent of his field, he enriches various projects and orchestras such as the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra as a soloist with his frame drums. He is a long-time companion of the Klezmer master Giora Feidman and uses his percussion skills skilfully in string quartets, international ensembles and also in many jazz or world music projects.

Murat Coşkun also appears as a studio musician for numerous CD and DVD productions and as a composer for theatre productions. TV and radio productions - with him and about him - complete his artistic profile.

As a sought-after lecturer for oriental percussion and frame drums, he teaches his own teaching method (at the Freiburg University of Music and other international universities and institutions in Switzerland, Spain, USA, Turkey, Iran, etc.) Since the winter semester 2015/2016 Murat Coşkun has been teaching percussion in the course of studies for world music at the Popakademie and since 2016 at the Bundesakademie in Trossingen. Since January 2018, he has been leading the four-year frame drum course at the Tamburi Mundi Frame Drum Academy, which he initiated.

Murat Coşkun is founder and artistic director of the world's most important festival for frame drums Tamburi Mundi in Freiburg.
