"Push Forward": Popacademics as mentors in funding program

13. July 2021

Laura Lato and Alex Mayr support young musicians on their way into the music business. On the occasion of the 75th birthdays of the music icons Patti Smith, Dolly Parton, Jane Birkin and Cher, the Kulturhaus Karlstorbahnhof in Heidelberg initiates a program to support young musicians.

Together with the Women* of Music network, four young musicians were selected from over 40 applications in February of this year. The acts Donna Leona & Daniloo, Johanna Holtzhauer, ELL and Yeama have since been working on a stage program based on the work of one of the pop greats mentioned.

They are supported by experienced female musicians who additionally coach them on topics such as songwriting and stage presence. They include Pop Academy graduate Alex Mayr and Popular Music student Laura Lato. Alex Mayr earned her bachelor's degree in pop music design and has just released her second album, PARK. The mentor team also includes Swedish musician Emma Elisabeth and singer/songwriter June Cocó.

On the weekend of July 17 and 18, the big Push Forward Showcase will take place on the summer stage of the Karlstorbahnhof. In addition to the young artists, the mentors will also be guests there. The showcase begins at 7:30 p.m. and admission is free.

The Push Forward project is supported by the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts of Baden-Württemberg in the program Kunst trotz Abstand.
