International Summer Camp of the Popakademie 2021

27. July 2021

The 13th International Summer Camp of the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg will take place this year from July 26 to 30, 2021 as a digital event.

The practice-oriented week is aimed at (semi-)professional international musicians of various genres, with a focus on songwriting and music production. Under the guidance of a top-class team of lecturers, there will be songwriting, producing and instrumental workshops in the mornings. In the afternoons, there will be a Songwriting & Music Production Camp, where students will write, compose and record their own songs in small teams and under guidance. Coaches include Michelle Leonard (songwriting), Pop Academy alumnus León Stawski (producing), Nick Tremulis of Columbia College Chicago (songwriting), Maze Leber (keys, producing), Annette Marquard (vocals/songwriting). The results of the week will be presented to all partner networks at a joint listening session on Friday, July 30, 2021.

The 13th International Summer Camp is a kick-off event for the "Urban Music Camps Namibia" of the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg, which will take place in Windhoek in 2022. Musicians from the partner institutions "College of the Arts" (COTA), University of Namibia (UNAM) and the Goethe Institute Namibia were invited to get to know each other.

Also this year, more than 40 students from the Pop Academy, Columbia College Chicago and the partner network Ostar Music Network will participate. In addition, five musicians from Namibia and a producer from Senegal, who had participated in the 1st Urban Music Camp in January 2020 in Saint-Louis, will take part in the camp. Other participants include musicians from Austria, Zambia, Kenya and South Africa.
The event offers students and alumni networking opportunities in an international context.
The results of the Namibian musicians of the International Summer Camp will be presented at the "Night Under The Stars" of the Goethe Institute Namibia in Windhoek.

The camp is sponsored by the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts of Baden-Württemberg.
