Hindol Deb

Teaches: Sitar, music theory

Sitarist and composer Hindol Deb dedicates himself to the endless possibilities of crossover between Indian music and various other genres such as contemporary classical music, jazz, flamenco, Nordic folk and Balkan music. He has presented these at many festivals and concerts, and has been invited by the Academy of Carnegie Hall, the French Ministry of Culture and ETHNO Sweden to work with local musicians. He also had the honour to perform before Pope Francis, the Dalai Lama and Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.

As a teacher and trainer, Hindol gives sitar lessons and workshops in the field of Indian classical music and in the field of improvisation and interpretation of Indian music in a Western musical context. He has given workshops at the Elbphilharmonie, the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Cologne, the Rheinische Musikschule in Cologne, and at the Arvika and Karlstad University in Sweden. He currently teaches Indian music at the Popakademie as part of the Global Music course.
