Department Chief Composition / Music Theory

After his studies at the Hochschule der Künste in Bern (piano with Joe Haider, William Evans and Kenny Werner) Prof. Alexander Paeffgen worked as a studio and live musician and as an arranger for the following artists, among others: Marla Glen, Thomas D., Nena, Ina Müller, Andrew Strong, Andreas Kümmert, Purple Schulz, Inga Rumpf.

He has also gained a high reputation through his own projects ("Alexander Paeffgen Trio", "Abba Jetzt!"), in which he acts as jazz pianist, composer and bandleader.

In addition, Prof. Alexander Paeffgen is involved in the areas of musical direction, rehearsal, conception and composition in numerous theatre productions (Theater Basel, Schauspiel Köln, NT Gent, Nationaltheater Mannheim, Staatstheater Stuttgart, Schauspielhaus Bochum).
