SONGS final concert
15. May 2025
On Saturday, May 24, 2025, the final of SONGS, the songwriting competition of the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg for students, will take place. Special guests at the SpardaWelt Eventcenter in Stuttgart are WILLMAN and SOFFIE. The “SONGS” competition is sponsored by the Stiftung Bildung und Soziales der Sparda-Bank Baden-Württemberg.
This year, the SONGS songwriting competition is celebrating its anniversary: at the final concert of the tenth round, selected participants will present their submitted songs live in front of a jury of experts. The jury consists of artist and songwriter Eva Sauter (band “ok.danke.tschüss”), Derek von Krogh (Artistic Director and Managing Director of Popakademie Baden-Württemberg), León Stawski (music producer and lecturer), Andreas Küchle (Board of Trustees of the Education and Social Foundation of Sparda-Bank Baden-Württemberg eG), Michelle Leonard (artist, publisher and songwriter) and David Banks (Head of Music at Audiotainment Südwest - BigFM, Radio Regenborgen, Rock FM, RPR1). The winners will receive non-cash prizes and professional coaching at the Popakademie. To mark the anniversary, WILLMAN and SOFFIE will be performing. Pop academic and Berlin musician SOFFIE conquers stages with a unique mix of fat beats and even fatter vocals. With her provocative way of living the world in “fortissimo”, she immerses the audience in an emotionally energetic atmosphere. Her lyrics are profound, but at the same time a call to experience the world with all its facets.Gender roles? Nope! Complete curriculum vitae? Nope! Perfect morning routine? Nope! The Freiburg duo WILLMAN would much rather say “yes” to themselves, even at the risk of being uncool. Anyone who gets in the duo's way on their way to uncompromising self-acceptance will be met with a snotty “Fuck you”. On their new EP “Ich bin Ich”, Jo (vocals, synth) and Felix (drums) give the middle finger to dusty norms, strange expectations and constant self-optimization with rap-smooched empowerment pop anthems. True to the motto: “How I was / how I am / is already leading somewhere”. WILLMAN confidently pack questions about the search for identity, setting personal boundaries and mental health into danceable tracks and - equipped with a good dose of courage - also sing about self-doubt and insecurities.
