GIRLS* GO MOVIE x Popakademie

26. May 2026

The GIRLS* GO MOVIE project kicks off the 22nd Film Coaching Program and Short Film Festival in 2026. It offers young women* and girls* an empowering, safe space to creatively express their anger, their fears, and above all, their demands for social change. Especially in times when fundamental rights to bodily autonomy are being structurally negotiated, filmmaking becomes a powerful tool for reclaiming one’s own voice.

Eligible to participate are girls* and women* between the ages of 12 and 27 from Baden-Württemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate, and Hesse (place of residence or birth). By using the asterisk*, the project also aims to include people who identify as girls* and women*.
GIRLS* GO MOVIE is organized by Stadtjugendring Mannheim e.V., the youth cultural center forum, and the City of Mannheim, Department of Youth Welfare and Public Health, Division of Youth Promotion. This year, for the first time, the project—as well as the short film festival—is being funded by the State of Baden-Württemberg with a total of 100,000 euros. Of this amount, 10,000 euros are earmarked specifically for the project.
The Popakademie Baden-Württemberg is also participating in GIRLS* GO MOVIE this year. On June 27, a workshop on music design will take place as part of the event, covering the basics of sound design in DaVinci. Participants will need to bring their own laptop. Those interested can register until May 29 at the latest.
