Cathleen Wagner from the Wilhelmi-Gymnasium in Sinsheim has won this year's songwriting competition for Baden-Württemberg SONGS with her song "Lonely". On Friday, May 3rd, she prevailed against the other 14 finalists at the SpardaWelt Event Centre in Stuttgart with her self-written song. The musical spectrum of the finale ranged from soulful solo pieces at the piano to rap and oriental band arrangements in Turkish.

With her song "Vitamin D-Mangel" Marisa Sitzler from the Kolping School of Design in Heilbronn took second place. Azra Saritas and the Realschule Heubach were happy about the third place with their song "Kara Sevda". Furthermore, a prize for the best live performance was awarded to LUPO with the song "Mama" and the Youngster Award to Luisa Strähle with the song "The first child on the moon".

All winners can look forward to material prizes totalling €10,000 for the musical equipment of their school or youth centre. On the other hand, they will receive individual coaching at the Popakademie. In addition, all finalists who have performed in Stuttgart will be invited to a joint vocal camp at the Popakademie to continue working on themselves, their voice and their SONGS.

Numerous young songwriters had applied for this year's edition of the songwriting competition, which took place for the fourth time. The jury, consisting of Prof. Udo Dahmen from the Popakademie, Andreas Küchle from Sparda-Bank BW, singer and songwriter Michelle Leonard, Nadime Romdhane from bigFM and winner of SONGS 2017 Eva Sauter selected the finalists in mid-April. On Friday they stood on stage with their self-written songs in the Sparda-World in Stuttgart.

The songwriting competition SONGS is sponsored by the Stiftung Bildung und Soziales der Sparda-Bank Baden-Württemberg and supported by the media partner "bigFM".
