Bağlama-Symposium

The Popakademie Baden-Württemberg, the Mannheim Municipal Music School, and the Mannheim University of Music and Performing Arts jointly organize the Mannheim Bağlama Symposium every fall. Cooperation partners are the Baden-Württemberg State Music Council and the Mannheim Academy of Oriental Music. Guests in recent years have included Erdal Erzincan, one of the most famous masters of this instrument, and singer, multi-instrumentalist, and bağlama player Derya Yıldırım. Lecturers, students, and alumni of the Popakademie's Global Music B.A. program also participated in the event.

The bağlama is the most important stringed instrument in Turkish music. Since 2015, the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg has offered a bachelor's degree course in Global Music (formerly World Music) with the bağlama as a major subject, and the Mannheim University of Music also offers a bachelor's degree course in teaching music at grammar schools with the bağlama as a major subject. Since 2012, the bağlama has been one of the instruments in the “Jugend musiziert” competition in Baden-Württemberg, in which the Mannheim Music School also takes part with its own bağlama ensemble.

Further cooperation partners of the symposium are the Baden-Württemberg State Music Council and the Oriental Music Academy Mannheim. The event is funded by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts.
