Baden-Württemberg offers immediate aid for artists

20. March 2020

The Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts has approved an emergency aid programme for artists in Baden-Württemberg who have run into existential bottlenecks due to the corona crisis.

Cultural life has largely come to a standstill as a result of the measures taken to protect against the unchecked spread of the coronavirus - with far-reaching consequences for artists, cultural workers and associations, small and large cultural institutions, the creative industries, events and festivals. The artists of the Popakademie are also affected.

The state parliament of Baden-Württemberg has therefore decided on an emergency aid programme Corona, which is aimed at solo self-employed persons as well as small and micro-enterprises, including those in the cultural and creative industries. In order to secure their economic existence and to compensate for liquidity bottlenecks, a one-off, non-repayable grant can be granted for three months starting on 25 March.

"Especially now, when we so urgently need art and culture to cope with our personal inner, but also social crisis, cultural life has largely come to a standstill. For many of you, this also involves existential economic issues, which is why the state government has launched the emergency aid programme to support companies and the self-employed who are directly threatened by an existential crisis," says Petra Olschowski, Secretary of State for the Arts and Chairwoman of the Supervisory Board of the Popakademie.
